About the artist ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jan's inclination for creativity began at her childhood kitchen table.
She was fortunate to have parents who supported experimentation with many kinds of traditional media and encouraged her to love discovery and to deal with outcomes that were sometimes unintended. Art has been central to Jan's identity; she continued to produce art as she moved into her career and raised her family.
After moving to Arizona from the Midwest to begin a career as a cultural anthropologist, Jan traveled, worked, and experienced different cultures in the U.S. and throughout the world, fascinated by the multitude of ways humans have expressed their creativity. As much as she loved her job, retirement finally provided adequate time for Jan to pursue art full-time.
Jan uses a variety of processes in her design work including pyrography, carving, painting with acrylics and ink dyes, and embellishing with natural materials. She is a juried member of the Sonoran Arts League.
ZolioArts, Jan's studio, is in her home in Desert Hills where she is surrounded and inspired by the desert every day.
